Choosing to make all of my baby’s food at home has been one of the best decisions I’ve made for my babe. Not only is it cheaper and much healthier for your little one, compared to shelf baby food, but you will feel much better knowing exactly what goes into your baby’s meal.
Here’s a quick and easy baby food recipe, for you and your little one to enjoy! This can be given to babies as soon as they are ready for solids!
If you’re not sure if your baby is ready for solids checkout this article on “Signs that indicate baby is developmentally ready for solids” on Kelly Mom website!
To get started, here is what you will need;

- Infant water
- Baby blender or regular small blender with milling and blending blade
- Fruit/vegetable peeler
- Cutting knife and board
- Tbsp/Measuring cup
- Small rubber spatula
- Serving bowl and storage containers
Honey Crisp, Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal Recipe
Prepare the apples
Step 1. Peel your apple and cut it into small pieces
Step 2. Put apple slices into a steaming basket
Step 3. Steam apples over 1/4 cup of water
You can do this using your nuby baby food maker kit by; placing the steaming basket (with sliced apples inside) into the batch bowl, placing the green plastic lid on the bottom, adding 1/4 cup of water, covering the the batch bowl with the white lid (leave the clear center piece off) and microwave for 2 minutes.
Using a stove, place the steaming basket (with apples inside) into a saucepan, add 1/4 cup of water, heat water to a boil (about 5-10 minutes) .
Or boil apples in a saucepan until they are soft.
Step 4. Once apples have cooled, add them to your Nuby baby blender short cup or blender with 1/4 cup of infant water. (You can add a pinch of cinnamon if you desire to).
Step 5. Using a blending blade, blend apples for 60 seconds. Remove pureed apples from blender, store in an airtight container, and clean blender for later use.
Prepare the the oatmeal
Step 1. Add 1 cup of oats to your blender
Step 2. Blend oats into a powder consistency (60-90 seconds) using a milling blade. (For Nuby or magic bullet baby blender, use short cup and milling blade)
Remove grinned oats from blender and store in an airtight container.
Step 3. Add 2 tbsp of oatmeal and 4 tbsp of infant water or breast milk into a microwave safe bowl, stir out any lumps and heat for 45 minutes. Check and stir halfway through to be sure oats aren’t clumping.
Using a stove, boil infant water/breast milk in a saucepan over low heat and gradually stir in grinned oats.
Adjust the amount of water or breast milk you add, depending on desired consistency. Add more water for thinner, soupy consistency and less water to get thicker oatmeal for older babies.
Mix them together
Once your oatmeal is the desired consistency you like, add 2 tbsp of pureed apples and stir.
Some for now, some for later plus an extra teething treat
Go ahead and put some oatmeal into a bowl to serve to your baby right away and store the leftovers in an airtight container for later or the next day. You can refrigerate oatmeal for 3 days.
